Rubaga Friends encourages the development of friendly personal connections between Tucson and Rubaga alongside with the general support program activities.
From the beginning, a cooperation between Sam Hughes Elementary School in Tucson and the Rubaga Community School in Kampala has been a key stone of the Rubaga Friends program.
Exchange of letters, crafts, educational materials and other activities engage children at both schools. The students get hand-on knowledge of another part of the world with a different culture. The sister-school project also clearly bring for a day how place of birth may result in huge differences with regard to general living conditions and future outlook for the individual.
Rubaga Friends encourages and supports the cultural and educational sister-school activities. It is a very important part of the general support program.
Rubaga Friends has reserved money in the budget to buy flight tickets for Rubaga School children when we can launch a planned project for Rubaga children to visit Tucson and enroll at the Sam Hughes School for a period.
Representatives from Rubaga Friends visit Rubaga from time to time to assess the impacts from the support program. This also offers a good opportunity of developing closer personal relations with children, teachers and staff at the school in Rubaga.
