In 2008, the Ministry of Education made it clear that without a physical separation of younger children from those already in primary school classes the school would be forced to give up caring for pre-school children. This would be a serious blow to the many small children always in line to be admitted and to the general mission of the school.
A separate, permanent building for the kindergarten children was the only feasible solution. Funding of the project was not ensured until a generous pledge was made by family members and friends in honor of Roberta Calkins, "Grammoo". The Dr. David Jacoby Memorial Fund also supported the work with a substantial contribution.
In 2010 and 2011, $32,200 were transferred to the building project, covering about 80% of the construction costs. By February 2012, some finishing work remains to make full use of space on the second floor.
The final result will be a wonderful, spacious house for the pre-school activities; the photo is from March 2011.
New Kindergarten Building
This plaque in honor of Roberta Calkins was revealed during the inauguration cermony July 2010, when the ground floor of the building was taken in use. Roberta Calkins, herself an educator, made an unforgettable impression on many students, friends, and family members.

With the growing number of children space problems at the Rubaga School gradually became a hindrance for daily operations and for the safety of the children, especially the smallest ones.
